Because fibroids are likely due to a combination of factors, including genetics, there is always the possibility of recurrence. However, studies have shown that whilst fibroids do recur, they only cause symptoms that need more treatment in about 5% of cases.
Some women may be more prone to fibroid recurrence due to genetics or other specific factors and the initial number of fibroids, their size and rate of growth and the age at which they first become problematic should all be considered.
